About this bottle
Wigle’s Wigle Small Cask Series Pennsylvania Monogahela Rye Whiskey is a rye whiskey from United States in our whiskey range. It is bottled at 42% ABV, in a 750 ml bottle. Producer tasting notes — on the nose: Floral rye and dark fruit notes are prominent on the nose. These typical rye notes are balanced by dry oak and toasted nut notes, similar to the bourbon; on the palate: Dark fruit, raisin, and black currant notes lead off the front of the palate. These notes combine with light pepper and toasted nut notes in the mid palate; finish: In the finish, the fruit notes nearly disappear and the bitter toasted nut notes and dry oak noted for the bourbon appear. It seems likely that the common small barrel aging for both the bourbon and the rye imparted the similar slightly dry, bitter oak notes.

Serving & pairing
Rye’s peppery spice is the classic base for a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. Pairs well with charcuterie and dark chocolate.
Rye versus bourbon — what is the difference?
Both are American whiskeys aged in new charred oak. Bourbon must be at least 51% corn, which gives sweetness; rye must be at least 51% rye grain, which gives pepper, spice and a drier finish. Canadian whisky is often called “rye” by tradition even when the mash bill contains little rye.
