Scotch whisky

Scotch whisky is distilled and matured in Scotland for at least three years in oak. Single malts come from one distillery using only malted barley; blends combine malt and grain whiskies. Regions — Speyside, Highland, Islay, Lowland, Campbeltown — hint at style but distillery character matters more.

Single malt or blended Scotch?

Single malt means one distillery, 100% malted barley, pot stills. Blended Scotch mixes malt whisky from several distilleries with lighter grain whisky, aiming for consistency and approachability. Blended malt (no grain whisky) sits between the two. Neither is inherently better; single malts show one distillery’s character while good blends show balance.
