About this bottle
A single malt Scotch whisky from Scotland from Tomintoul, Tomintoul 1967 TWA 46 Year Old Single Malt Scotch Whisky is part of the Spirit Hives whiskey selection. It is bottled at 47.6% ABV, carrying a 46-year age statement. Producer tasting notes — on the nose: When pouring already got a juicy apple note from the glass. Sweet caramel and a good dose of oak. A slightly musty smell comes from the background, which flies with some time in the glass. Vanilla and a thick note that reminds me of warm must. Ne track lemon. From the alcohol, I notice nothing at all; on the palate: Nutty bitterness followed by a pleasant honey taste. Shell must, almonds and some dark chocolate. It develops a good dose of pepper, which I just did not expect. At the second sip clearly pear. You do not notice much of the alcohol; finish: Medium. Again, the bitterness. But also the honey and the pear. Proving mouthfeel.

Serving & pairing
Serve neat with a few drops of water to open the aromas. Lighter styles suit smoked salmon and shortbread; peated styles suit blue cheese and oysters.
Single malt or blended Scotch?
Single malt means one distillery, 100% malted barley, pot stills. Blended Scotch mixes malt whisky from several distilleries with lighter grain whisky, aiming for consistency and approachability. Blended malt (no grain whisky) sits between the two. Neither is inherently better; single malts show one distillery’s character while good blends show balance.
