A scotch whisky from Scotland from Springbank, Springbank 2004 Cadenhead Warehouse Tasting 14 Year Old is part of the Spirit Hives whiskey selection. It is bottled at 54.4% ABV, carrying a 14-year age statement. Producer tasting notes — on the nose: A gush of red fruit comes towards you, it looks very dense, light spice, chocolate, like jam, light acidity. Raisins, it already has a nice oak influence, a hint of furniture polish, a little caramel, overall a fairly sweet basic tone, grated orange peel, very nice; on the palate: oily, full load of sherry on the start, much drier in the mouth, raisins, bittersweet, hazelnuts, light roasted aromas, oak, becoming more creamy, stimulates chewing, espresso, after the start a little sweetness comes through, chocolatey,; finish: dry and sticky sherry, slightly dirty, nuts, sour, fruity, long-lasting and warming.

Serving & pairing
Serve neat with a few drops of water to open the aromas. Lighter styles suit smoked salmon and shortbread; peated styles suit blue cheese and oysters.
Single malt or blended Scotch?
Single malt means one distillery, 100% malted barley, pot stills. Blended Scotch mixes malt whisky from several distilleries with lighter grain whisky, aiming for consistency and approachability. Blended malt (no grain whisky) sits between the two. Neither is inherently better; single malts show one distillery’s character while good blends show balance.
