About this bottle

Ledaig’s Ledaig 17 Year Old 2001 Single Cask (Private Label) is a scotch whisky from Scotland in our whiskey range. It is bottled at 48% ABV, carrying a 17-year age statement, in a 700 ml bottle. Producer tasting notes — on the nose: Sweet notes of mango, charred pineapple, and floral honey lead to tinned peaches and chantilly cream. A hint of smoked meat and oily oak join in time; on the palate: Gently coastal with salted fudge, apricot, and charcoal leading the way before cinnamon and ginger join. Resinous oak is backed up by tropical fruit and a touch of biltong; finish: Herbaceous peat brings a medicinal touch to the finish, balanced by salted papaya and stewed stone fruits.

Described by the producer as a limited or special release. Quantities are not guaranteed.

Serving & pairing

Serve neat with a few drops of water to open the aromas. Lighter styles suit smoked salmon and shortbread; peated styles suit blue cheese and oysters.

Single malt or blended Scotch?

Single malt means one distillery, 100% malted barley, pot stills. Blended Scotch mixes malt whisky from several distilleries with lighter grain whisky, aiming for consistency and approachability. Blended malt (no grain whisky) sits between the two. Neither is inherently better; single malts show one distillery’s character while good blends show balance.

Whisky club

Cask strength, labelled as such.

“ABV and proof on the card, so I knew I was buying 58 percent and could plan the water. Big, oily, brilliant. Exactly what Spirit Hives said it was.”
Neil D.Cask-strength bourbon
A treat

Japanese whisky I could actually pay for.

“I lined up three blends, saw the sizes and the prices, and picked the 700 ml I could afford. Spirit Hives did not hide the cost. No regrets.”
Ken A.Japanese blended whisky
Wishlist haul

Saved three, bought three.

“A month of adding bottles to the Spirit Hives wishlist, then I checked out the three I kept opening. Sherried Speyside, a rye, a Rioja. All three matched the page.”
Matej N.Three bottles
Rare find

The bottle my town does not stock.

“Spirit Hives had the small-batch bourbon I had only ever seen on holiday. I ordered it on a Tuesday and it was on the table for Sunday. That is why I came back.”
Marcus T.Small-batch bourbon
