About this bottle
Glenfarclas 1986 Cask #3448 Single Malt Scotch Whisky is a single malt Scotch whisky from Scotland made by Glenfarclas. It is bottled at 50.5% ABV, in a 700 ml bottle. Producer tasting notes — on the nose: Polished oak and antique leather open things up, followed by medjool dates, toasted walnuts, and a whiff of cigar box. Layers of fig jam and burnt toffee emerge with time in the glass, underpinned by a subtle thread of old balsamic and spice cupboard warmth; on the palate: Lusciously rich with stewed plums, molasses, and cherry liqueur. The sherry influence is deep but elegant – think old PX with a dry edge. Clove, dark chocolate, and treacle tart develop alongside hints of orange oil and espresso crema; finish: Long, drying, and beautifully spiced. Cinnamon bark and cedar linger with black tea tannins and a final flourish of nutty, oxidised oloroso.

Serving & pairing
Serve neat with a few drops of water to open the aromas. Lighter styles suit smoked salmon and shortbread; peated styles suit blue cheese and oysters.
Single malt or blended Scotch?
Single malt means one distillery, 100% malted barley, pot stills. Blended Scotch mixes malt whisky from several distilleries with lighter grain whisky, aiming for consistency and approachability. Blended malt (no grain whisky) sits between the two. Neither is inherently better; single malts show one distillery’s character while good blends show balance.
