About this bottle
A straight rye whiskey from United States from Elijah Craig, Elijah Craig Straight Rye Whiskey is part of the Spirit Hives whiskey selection. It is bottled at 47% ABV, in a 750 ml bottle. Producer tasting notes — on the nose: Orange peel with a touch of booze. Then you find some rye spice, cherry, and perhaps some strawberry hard candy. There are a lot of layers on this one; on the palate: Candied orange for sure. Caramel and cinnamon. Light bodied, but the finish lingers. After the initial citrus hit, you can pick up the sweeter notes; finish: Long and rich.

Serving & pairing
Rye’s peppery spice is the classic base for a Manhattan or an Old Fashioned. Pairs well with charcuterie and dark chocolate.
Rye versus bourbon — what is the difference?
Both are American whiskeys aged in new charred oak. Bourbon must be at least 51% corn, which gives sweetness; rye must be at least 51% rye grain, which gives pepper, spice and a drier finish. Canadian whisky is often called “rye” by tradition even when the mash bill contains little rye.
